Method

What a source tier means

A tier describes the type of evidence, not the artistic or social value of the material. Institutional records or several independent media sources take priority for biographical facts.

  1. A

    Primary or institutional

An official catalogue, academic publication, university material, organiser’s record or authorial record.

  2. B

    Authoritative media or direct interview

A professionally edited publication or an interview in which the words belong to the author herself.

  3. C

    Author or event archive

A valuable primary source for creative history that requires independent support for awards and external assessments.

  4. D

    Indirect or incomplete lead

An index, fragment or unavailable page that aids the search for an original but does not complete verification.

  3. 03

    1991 — abstract, 1992 — degree year in biographies

These dates should not be mechanically reduced to one: the catalog records the 1991 edition of the abstract, and biographical sources call 1992 the year of defense or obtaining a degree.

  4. 04

"Ave Eva" is related to "Musical Frescoes"

It is a separate bilingual edition of the short story, which is one of the chapters of a larger novel of five related short stories.

  5. 05

Two books about Krasola have different plots

The seven evil sisters appear in “Tales of the Magical Kingdom of Krasola”. In “Seven Secrets…”, the antagonist is Mor, and the heroes restore Truth, Memory, Gratitude, Mercy, Inspiration and Joy.

  6. 06

    Thessaloniki — attribution with interviews

Aristotle University is named in the 2011 biographical reference. There is no open agreement or institutional description of the format of cooperation.

  7. 07

    German translation published in Lviv

The translator was from Austria, but the bibliography records the place of publication of 'Katharsis' as Lviv, publishing house 'BaK', 2011.

Refuted and unconfirmed claims

These entries are not biographical facts. The register explains what was checked, what was found and under what condition a conclusion could be reconsidered.

  1. 01

    Unverified

“Seven Secrets of the Kingdom of Krasola” — posthumous laureate of DNIPRO-BOOK-FEST–2020

An announcement of the 2020 contest was found, but not the results protocol or a reliable report about this book. Searches return confirmed results of 2018.

Editorial decision: Do not add as an award without a diploma, jury protocol, or organizer’s message.

  2. 02

    Refuted

"All Roads Lead to Love" won at DNIPRO-BOOK-FEST–2018

In the full list of results, the winner book is named “Seven Secrets of the Kingdom of Krasola,” and “Roots of Light” received a separate distinction.

Editorial decision: Keep the correct attribution of awards to the two books; do not associate "All Roads…" with the contest.

  3. 03

    Refuted

"Three Virtues…" made it to the short list of BBC-2010

The book was among the contenders, but it is not among the five published finalists.

Editorial decision: Use only the terms “contender” or “long list”, not shortlist.

  4. 04

    Refuted

The Lviv Astronomical Society recognized "Three Virtues..."

"Three Virtues..." received a special award from the Zonta International Club "Lviv-Castle"; the astronomical society recognized another publication — "Teacher's Atlas".

Editorial decision: Do not attribute an astronomical award to the book.

  5. 05

    Refuted

The dissertation on the oscillations of shell structures near stable equilibrium belongs to Olha Kossak.

This is the 1994 work of Ihor Stepanovych Budz. Olha Kossak's abstract has a different title, was published in Lviv in 1991, and concerns composite axisymmetric bodies.

Editorial decision: Use only the verified title of Olha Kossak's abstract.

  6. 06

    Unverified

Olha Kossak participated in project No. 0115U003553 in 2018

The project existed, but the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv register gives its term as 01.2015–12.2017 and names Yarema Savula as project lead; the available records do not list Olha Kossak among the participants.

Editorial decision: Do not attribute participation without a report with the composition of performers or a certificate from the department.

  7. 07

    Unverified

Three extended sayings about Blanik, happiness and spiritual strength are verbatim BBC quotations

The available video does not have subtitles, and the given wording is not found in the textual primary sources.

Editorial decision: Do not quote until manual transcription with accurate timecodes.

  8. 08

    Unverified

"Mathematics is the music of the mind" - a verbatim quote by Eva Gata

Such a wording was not found in the verified full interviews; A verified quote book contains only phrases that can be accurately traced back to the source.

Editorial decision: Do not attribute to the author or put in quotes without a primary source.

  9. 09

    Unverified

There existed official agreements with the universities of Athens and Thessaloniki established by open sources.

Athens co-authorship and scientific contacts are confirmed; a 2011 interview mentions the University of Thessaloniki. Texts of the agreements, their subject, and dates have not been found.

Editorial decision: Write about the collaboration with precise attribution, but do not invent the legal form.

    Permission required

A photo available in the media can be automatically downloaded and republished.

The open URL does not provide a license. For most editorial portraits, the rights holder or photographer is partially known, but permission for new use is not recorded.

Editorial decision: Keep the source and credit, and publish the file only with permission or an open license.
